Grade Health!
In health we study First Aid, CPR, drugs, and sexually transmitted
diseases.
In the First Aid lesson, we learn how to give immediate care for people who
are injured or have something wrong with them. We get to do CPR on a dummy.
If we pass our CPR test and written test, we get our Red Cross First Aid
cards.
When we talk about
drugs, we get to wear drunk goggles and do some activities with them on such
as driving a remote control car, walking a straight line, and throwing a
ball at a target. The goggles distort our vision so that when we think
we are doing something perfect, it ends up that we are way off track.
We also watched videos about smoking and tobacco. We learned there are many
consequences to smoking; from just wishing you had never started, to losing
half of your jaw or having to breathe through a hole in your throat.
We also go over sexually transmitted diseases. We discuss HIV and AIDS and
other diseases. We also complete several worksheets on sexually transmitted
diseases. We learn about abstinence and how to say "NO!" when someone wants
to have sex. We also watched a video about abstinence.
Clearly, we go over a lot of things we will need to know for the future.

Students experience what it feels like to be "under the influence"
and learn how hard it is to perform everyday activities. |
